Medical elastic bandages are used as a compressive bandage in prophylaxis and treatment of traumas, including athletic injuries, varicose veins, trombophlebitis and lymphovenous insufficiency. Its application reduces loading on muscles, ligaments and joints, and helps to reduce edema and inflammation providing necessary compression upon the damaged site. Biobandages may also be used for the sclerotherapy purposes and for application of pressure bandage after discarding of a plaster cast in traumatology. It is used for arrest of voluminous bleeding caused by open fractures and wounds in emergency surgery and at first aid dressing.
